Both carriers have agreed to codeshare on 190 routes (60 American and 130 JetBlue routes) across the Northeastern United States. The primary focus here is on JetBlue’s focus cities in New York City and Boston as well as American’s small hub at New York JFK.
Before the announcement of this strategic alliance between the two airlines, JetBlue announced over 30 new routes. 14 of them are starting from New York City Airports alone, with nine from Newark Liberty, three from JFK, and two from Laguardia.
American announced two new international routes out of JFK into Athens,
Greece and Tel Aviv, Israel. American Airlines has launched any new longhaul international service out of JFK in four years. This means that JetBlue is focusing on growing the domestic part of the codeshare while American is focusing on international routes.
Some of these routes have already started such as New York JFK into Detroit and Dallas/Fort Worth. The exclusive mint service from Newark into San Francisco and Los Angeles has already started as well.
JetBlue customers are expected to have access to frequent flier miles on AAdvantage and vice versa for American customers with access to JetBlue’s TrueBlue program.
More developments from the codeshare including confirmed dates for American’s new international routes out of JFK are expected in the near future.
