Black Friday was expected to have larger crowds in 2021 compared to 2020, but shoppers were not quick to rush stores across Sacramento Friday morning. Meanwhile, bottlenecks, due in part to shipping and trucker delays, are causing prices on items like televisions to soar, up to 17% marked up from last year, an Allianz Research representative told The Associated Press. KCRA 3’s Erin Heft reports.

WHO classes new South African variant as ‘of concern’, names it Omicron
The World Health Organization has said that the latest Covid19 variant first identified in South Africa has been classed as a \”variant of concern\”.
In an update this evening, the WHO said the strain had been given the name ‘Omicron’.
It also said preliminary evidence suggests the variant carries higher risk of reinfection than other variants of concern.
\”Based on the evidence presented indicative of a detrimental change in Covid19 epidemiology … the WHO has designated B.1.1.529 as a variant of concern, named Omicron,\” the UN health agency said in a statement.
The WHO’s Technical Lead on Covid, Dr Maria van Kerkhove, said that the variant has a large number of mutations, some of which have worrying characteristics.

Fears over “worst ever” Covid variant as UK bans flights from southern Africa – BBC News
Scientists are warning that a new Coronavirus variant is the “worst” they have seen. The B.1.1.529 variant has mutations which mean it may evade immunity built up by previous Covid infection or vaccination.
Cases have been detected in southern Africa and also in Hong Kong.
The UK is temporarily banning flights from six countries in southern Africa Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Eswatini and placing them on its Red List meaning any passengers who do arrive must quarantine.
Clive Myrie presents BBC News at Ten reporting by medical editor Fergus Walsh, political correspondent Nick Eardley and Africa correspondent Andrew Harding.
